Commercial Use Authorizations (CUA) are a permitting tool used by the National Park Service (NPS) to allow private business to be conducted within a national park for a calendar year. The service a CUA holder provides must be considered appropriate by the NPS. White Sands National Park will accept applications for 2023 Photography Workshop CUAs beginning October 1, 2022.

Over the 4th of July holiday weekend, White Sands’ park rangers initiated a search after locating an unoccupied vehicle in the park. At 11:02 am, Tuesday, July 6, 2022, search and rescue teams discovered a deceased male located off-trail at White Sands National Park.

A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 782,469 visitors to White Sands National Park in 2021 spent $46,418,000 in communities near the park. That spending supported 630 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $55,724,000.
