Carlsbad Caverns Implements Precautions to Prevent Spread of White-Nose Syndrome

In April 2021, Pd (Pseudogymnoascus destructans) the fungus that causes White-Nose Syndrome (WNS) in bats, was detected on hibernating bats and cave walls in two eastern New Mexico caves in Lincoln and DeBaca County.
Preventative Measure Implemented Due to Increased Fire Danger

Due to increased fire danger, Carlsbad Caverns National Park has implemented the following preventative measure--Using park provided fire/charcoal grills or personal fire/charcoal grills is prohibited at Rattlesnake Springs Picnic Area.
Virtually Experience the Rock of Ages Program

On December 19, Carlsbad Caverns National Park will begin to release nine podcasts to experience the Rock of Ages Program. Two radio theater episodes will be released each weekend for five weeks and made available on the park’s website.

Due to extreme fire danger, Carlsbad Caverns National Park has implemented the following preventative measures: 1) Charcoal fires are prohibited and 2) Open flames and cooking stoves are prohibited in the backcountry.

Based on guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities, access to Carlsbad Caverns National Park is as follows: Open: Park roads, desert trails, and picnic areas Closed: Cavern and visitor center, including the gift shop, restaurant, and bookstore
Update: Carlsbad Caverns National Park is Modifying Operations to Implement Latest Health Guidance

As of March 21, 2020, the cavern and visitor center, including the gift shop, restaurant, and bookstore, are closed until further notice. In addition, ranger-guided tours have been cancelled. Park roads, desert trails, and picnic areas will remain open.
Carlsbad Caverns National Park is Modifying Operations to Implement Latest Health Guidance

As of March 18, 2020, access to Carlsbad Cavern by elevators is closed until further notice, except for those using wheelchairs, walkers, or canes. Visitors will still be able to enjoy the cavern by hiking the Natural Entrance Trail.
