Carlsbad Caverns National Park Closed During Upcoming Holidays

Carlsbad Caverns National Park will be closed on November 24, December 25, and January 1. This includes the visitor center, cavern, roads, and trails.

Due to trail erosion from recent rain and flooding, the park's wilderness areas and backcountry trails are closed until assessments and repairs can be completed.

On August 20, a flash flood occurred in the park with 20 foot deep water flowing across sections of the main road.
Carlsbad Caverns Lifts Some Fire Restrictions Due to Recent Rain

During the past two weeks, Carlsbad Caverns National Park received 2.26 inches of rain, reducing the fire danger. As a result, effective July 1, the park will lift some fire restrictions.
Tourism to Carlsbad Caverns National Park Creates $27.4 Million in Economic Benefits

A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 349,244 visitors to Carlsbad Caverns National Park in 2021 spent $25.1 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 312 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $27.4 million.

Extreme fire danger continues to affect Carlsbad Caverns National Park and new restrictions have been implemented as of May 25.
Additional Preventative Measures Implemented Due to Increasing Fire Danger

As a result of increasing fire danger at Carlsbad Caverns National Park, overnight camping is prohibited, permitting of overnight backcountry trips is suspended, and propane stoves are prohibited. The previously issued preventative measures remain in effect.
