Yosemite Declares End of Fire Season

Fire danger has been consistently "low" over the past several days and there is more precipitation in the forecast. Seasonal firefighters have started to depart and Helicopter-551 has been released for the season. With these changes, Yosemite Fire managers have declared the Fire Season over as of November 15, 2024.

Although the Middle Fire is 100% contained, trail closures are still in effect impacting the trail along Long Gulch Creek, between Aspen Valley and White Wolf.

Yosemite National Park is a fire-adapted ecosystem. The overall strategy for all wildland fires is to provide for the safety of employees, the public, and to protect and enhance natural and cultural resources. Yosemite Fire crews are using a full suppression strategy on the Middle Fire using ground and air resources, including handline construction with fire crews including 1 helicopter, 2 Type 2 crews, 1 NPS wildland fire use module and 2 engines.

Yosemite National Park continues to see sporadic thunderstorm activity and the weather forecast calls for temperatures well above average with low humidities through the end of the week. Yosemite Fire has responded to six fires since August 2nd; these fires are in high elevation wilderness and fire managers are assessing conditions and response. The Middle and Morrison fires have firefighters regularly providing updates on conditions and these two fires are being fully suppressed.

Yosemite Fire has responded to six fires since August 2nd; these fires are in high elevation wilderness and fire managers are assessing conditions and response. The Middle, Forsyth, and Morrison fires have firefighters regularly providing updates on conditions.

Yosemite National Park has seen multiple thunderstorms over the past two weeks and the weather outlook calls for continued thunderstorm activity. Yosemite Fire has responded to 14 fires since July 13, 2024, with three active fires remaining. These fires are in high elevation wilderness ranging from 7,600 to 9,800 feet and fire managers are assessing conditions and response. The Porcupine, Wegner, and Dorothy fires have firefighters regularly providing updates on conditions.
