Theodore Roosevelt National Park to Conduct Strategic Bison and Horse Operations

Roughly 200 bison and up to 15 horses will be transferred out of the park to support a healthy and manageable population.

On October 1, 2024, the rates for Theodore Roosevelt National Park campgrounds will change. Fee changes will include the Cottonwood Campground, Cottonwood Group site, Juniper Campground, Juniper Group site, and Roundup Group Horse Camp campground.

Earlier this spring, a male feral horse began entering Roundup Horse Camp, approaching campers and their riding stock, following riders down the trail, and interfered with the feeding and care of the camper’s horses.

Visitor Injured by Bison at Theodore Roosevelt National Park

A female visitor from Minnesota was severely injured by a bison at Painted Canyon in Theodore Roosevelt National Park on Saturday, July 15. She was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Dickinson and was last reported to be in serious but stable condition.
